«Greetings from the Cambodian Children’s Painting Project»

2010 October 14

We’ve had a very busy rainy season here in Sihanoukville. We’re settling into our new campus and beginning to expand our project to include more services and reach more children and families. It is a very exciting time for everyone involved and we certainly all have our work cut out for us. As I write this the rain is pouring down outside and we have a full classroom of students painting portraits and getting ready for their daily English lesson taught by our talented volunteer Tim, who has brought along his accordion for musical accompaniment!

All of our students are now registered for Khmer school and have been attending regularly, which we’ll continue to monitor and encourage throughout the year.  It’s great seeing them all in their school uniforms though we do worry that they’ll get covered in paint!  We’re very confident that this is going to be a great year for our education program, particularly now that we are ready to hire a new teacher.

In other news, Sandi has returned from her visit home and resumed her role as art director.  She has been very busy helping plan for the new CCPP programs and improving our existing structure.  She’s also looking forward to working in our new gallery space where we’ll be selling CCPP paintings, holding an artist’s collective with some of the older students and possibly opening a cafe!  Now we just need someone to find us the extra time to put all of this together!  We’ll have to keep drinking those amazing iced coffees from the roadside stand and stay up a little later.

I hope you’ll all take a few minutes to check out our newsletter and see what we’ve been up to.  There’s info about the Europe tour and our new projects, plus some news about recent goings on around the center.  And, of course, lots of photos of all of our wonderful students.

Best wishes to all of you out there in the world. The rain hasn’t stopped pouring for days now but our spirits are high here at CCPP and we’re all looking forward to a bright (sunny) future.

Take care,
