ABF NEWSLETTER,

“ABF Works to Inform You About Human Rights Situation In Iran”

2011 April 08

Dear Friends,

You are receiving this email as a current subscriber to the newsletters of the Abdorrahman Boroumand Foundation for the promotion of Human Rights and Democracy in Iran (ABF). We are in the process of renewing our newsletter settings and are asking all of you to please take a minute to confirm your subscription by adding your email address to our subscription page. ABF will not be able to send its newsletters to those who do not confirm their subscription.

We also ask you to please forward this email to anyone you think may be interested in learning about human rights issues in Iran and would like to receive our newsletters, which we send out no more than 12 times a year – and only when we think our in-depth knowledge of an issue or a case will provide human rights advocates around the globe with strong arguments in their efforts to improve the situation of human rights in the Islamic Republic of Iran. Our newsletter is also a vehicle to support urgent appeals issued by other human rights groups such as Amnesty International or Human Rights Watch, in support of a person in danger.

Providing Historical Background to Better Understand Today’s Issues

A brief background on ABF:

Created in April 1991, ABF is a non-governmental non-profit organization dedicated to the promotion of human rights and democracy in Iran. ABF is an independent organization with no political affiliation.

ABF is committed to the values enshrined in the Universal Declaration of Human Rights of 1948 and in other internationally recognized human rights instruments. Taking as a starting point the fundamental equality of all human beings, ABF seeks to ensure that human rights in Iran are promoted and protected without discrimination, whether it be on the basis of one’s gender, race, religion, ethnicity, and social or national origin. Guided by the belief that unremedied human rights violations are a major obstacle to the establishment of a stable democracy, ABF is committed to the right of all victims of human rights abuses to justice and public recognition.

During the last decade, ABF has dedicated all its energy to create a database of victims’ of human rights abuses, which includes mainly those victims of the violation of the right to life.  ABF is thus able to shed light on the pattern of state violence each time a new case is brought to the public’s attention.  By putting each case, or issue, in perspective, and contextualizing it in light of more than 30 years of state violence, ABF is capable of helping the community of experts as well as ordinary citizens with vested interest in global human rights issues, to better understand Iran’s human rights situation.
